Having been in private practice physiotherapy for over 30 years, and operating as a Cairns based physiotherapist for over 25 years, owner and operator of Proactive Physiotherapy, Julie Faulks has always believed that high quality hands on assessment and treatment in a caring, friendly and professional manner is one of the most important services a physiotherapist can offer. She believes that good communication and education in self management techniques helps her clients gain ownership of their personal situation while allowing them to become proactive in the treatment of their own conditions to get better sooner. By developing a clear understanding of each client’s personal situation and lifestyle, and being interested and focussed on their goals and desires, Julie is able to then define and deliver specific and consistent treatments based around individual patient needs.
Julie’s desire to always give the patient the best possible result has resulted in 30 years of continuing education in order for her to remain updated on the best and most effective ways of delivering optimum results to each and every client.
In 2000, Julie completed a manipulative Masters Degree which advanced her manual musculoskeletal skills to even higher levels. Although her major thesis involved an extensive focus on the treatment of the neck and jaw pain including headaches, Julie considers that her special skills are more akin to treating the whole spine, from the hips to the head.
Julie recently completed her training to become a senior level bounce back instructor which allows her to train other bounce back practitioners throughout Australia.
Julie believes in a healthy, happy and balanced life and believes that leading by example is one of the best way to inspire her patients. She exercises regularly with her current sports passion being outrigging while always having an absolute love of travel.

Marilla has worked part-time in the Proactive Physiotherapy clinic now for more than 10 years. Previously she worked as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with a specific interest in women’s health. Marilla also instructs introductory BOUNCE Back classes. Marilla enjoys being involved in the continuous development, research and learning gained through the joint research conducted in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and continence physiotherapy as the concept of core stability has evolved. Being a physiotherapist is a relatively small part of Marilla life, as she has four children and is actively involved with her husband’s business. Marilla looks forward to the day when the kids grow up and she can take off, walk a track, play more golf and see more theatre. In the meantime, she enjoys staying fit and healthy.
